Early Spring Indiana Wildflower Hiking Trails
There are many places in Indiana where you may find a wonderful display of spring wildflowers. Wooded areas are the best candidates, as the wildflowers of meadow and roadside are just beginning to awaken. It is in the deep forest, where the native plants of Indiana are blooming.

Fall Wildflowers – Autumn at its Best in Indiana
The late fall wildflowers begin their show here in southern Indiana in the meadows, roadsides and forests beginning in early September and continuing, in most cases, until frost cuts them off in mid October.

Summer Wildflowers
The summer solstice occurs around June 20, and by that time the woodland wildflowers here in Indiana have quieted down. But the wildflowers along the roadsides, in meadows and in fields are just beginning to shout.

Early Spring Wildflowers
Here in southeastern Indiana the early spring wildflower season begins in early April with the emergence of the spring beauty in the woodland. These are followed by snow white cut leaved toothwort and blue phlox.

Wildflower Seed
Growing wild flower seed can be, in some cases, a bit of a challenge. Many wildflower seeds need special conditions for germination. Although most will germinate readily, others need a process called stratification to germinate.

Wood Land Plants and Flowers
Woodland plants and flowers generally bloom early in the spring before the forest leaf canopy fills in and shades the woodland floor. These plants have about six weeks in the spring to emerge from the leaf litter on the forest floor and flower.

Wildflowers can be pesky to identify, and while most wildflower guides are excellent as far as description and photos they can be devilishly hard to use. The flower identification in this web site will combine photos and description as well, but additionally will be organized as to when the plants are found in flower.
