Seed Coat
The seed coat is the protective outer layer of the seed. It is formed after fertilization from the ovary walls. The hardness of the seed coat varies from species to species. Some are quite impermeable to water, causing complex environmental changes before germination can begin. Others are softer and allow quicker germination.
